Class Guidelines

Overview

TriYoga offers a variety of programs, teacher trainings and classes. The TriYoga Flows method combines flowing and sustained postures in union with the rhythmic breath and focused mind. This trinity practice is the unification of asana, pranayama and mudra. Certified teachers nationally and internationally present the teachings of master yogini Kali Ray (Kaliji).

Promoting a calm and meditative atmosphere

Through TriYoga practice, the breath becomes even and rhythmical, the mind focused and calm. This naturally creates a harmonious inner state, the firm foundation of meditation. Daily classes focus on TriYoga Flows and conclude with deep relaxation, rhythmic breathing, concentration and meditation. Each part is integral to the practice. Arrive on time. Class is 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes in length, unless otherwise noted on the schedule. During the practice, keep talk to a minimum. Stay with the sequence led by the teacher. If needed, modify a given pose with a close alternative. Use your inner guidance to honor what is best for you. Children may attend if they are participating in a truly focused way and have paid tuition. The closing deep relaxation is essential to fully absorb the benefits of the practice. With a gentle focus on the breath or mantra, and by remaining the silent witness, one enters yoga nidra, total relaxation. To receive the benefits, we recommend a reclined, still posture. If it is necessary to leave early, leave before deep relaxation, not during it. Close your practice with a relaxation on your own. The closing of yoga nidra is signaled by the gentle ring of bells: First bell: Remain reclined. Return the breath to Complete Breath. Second bell: Remain reclined. Begin to add gentle movements to the body. Third bell: Maintain the relaxation. Come to a comfortable seated posture. Class concludes with a breathing practice known as Omkara where one takes a complete inhalation and on the exhalation chants Om. Feel free to just listen or to join in. Following three rounds of Om, the palms can be placed together at the heart, saying Namaste', that is "I bow to the Light within," or Jaya Guru Devi, meaning "Victory to health, knowledge and happiness" or Jaya Guru Datta, to say "Victory to knowledge."

Ensuring a safe and therapeutic personal practice

Kaliji has systematized the flows by level, progressing from basic to advanced. Each level and series prepares the student for the next as flexibility, strength, endurance, and knowledge of the flows increase. A series is defined as a prescribed sequence of flowing and sustained postures. Each level includes five series which progress to teach all the postures for that level. So that the student may practice and better learn a specific series, it is taught over an extended period of time. It is advised to choose one series and focus on it both in class and in your home practice. Begin with Basics classes. After completing the Basics series, progress as ready to Level 1, then Level 2 and so on. Maintaining the proper sequencing will provide the maximum benefits of the practice.

The natural alignment classes are essential to gain a deeper understanding of the alignment for each level of TriYoga Flows. After finishing the extended study of one series, returning to the same series again and again will greatly deepen the benefits. If you have any health or physical challenges, talking to the teacher before class is advised. The teacher can help with props and modifications. The series are carefully designed to be therapeutic and balancing to the body and mind. Choose classes where you can participate in the flow. Modify and rest as needed. To attend an all-levels class or workshop, knowledge and practice of at least Level 1 is required.

Waivers

Our insurance carrier has requested that each student sign a waiver whereby the student acknowledges full responsibility for personal health and safety. Review guideline section entitled, "To Ensure a Safe, Therapeutic Personal Practice".

Use of Facilities

Directly on entering class, present your pass or tuition. Tuition fees for the programs and daily classes are stated on the schedule. Keep valuables with you. Turn off cell phones, pagers or beeping watches before entering the yoga class. Take out the needed props before class and put them away neatly at the end of class. You may want to have a yoga mat for your personal use. Aim to not walk on others' mats.

Health an Hygeine

It is advisable not to have eaten two to three hours before class. If there is a tendency to perspire during class, bring a towel. Refrain from the use of fragrances as some people are sensitive or allergic to them.

Attire

Wear comfortable clothing. Shirts are required. Leave shoes in the entry; have clean bare feet.
